Chapter 2
Hayward took a deep breath and straightened his fedora, then gave the large oak door a quick knock, 'Come in' came a deep rumble from the other side, Hayward slowely opened the door and stepped in, the floor was plain wood, with a big persian rug laid out before the desk, which was a stately affair of Mahogany, a fire blazed to the left giving the room a nice rosy feeling, the window behind the desk provided a view to endless clear skies, and perfect ice. Santa was sitting in a large leather chair behind the desk, and Hayward made his way across the room, feeling dwarfed (or elfed), on reaching the desk he cleared his throat, 'I have some good news, most of the people on the list have made their payments, giving that tip did the trick boss.'
Santa leaned forwards and beamed at the elf, 'You did good, that'll teach them to mess with me, I'm the king, and they got to remember that.'
Nodding vigerously Hayward pulled out a newspaper and hands it over, 'Here, I thought you might like this, he got front page.'
Police raid Ford Executives home, find pot
An anonamous tip off eariler today led to police seizing a moderate amount of marijuana from a high ranking exec, who declines from commenting, his distraught wife said she didn't think it was doing anyone much harm, and he seemed happy enough. The news came as a shock for everyone, and police are still looking for leads into who he sold it to, and bought it from, we managed to get hold of Sergeant Jenkins for a comment, 'First I would like to extend my thanks to whoever sent the tip in, we, the police need citizens who do the right thing and report in anything they think might not be above board. We found substantial amounts of the drug, and a shed converted to grow it, and also a list of friends who he has sold it too, we are currently persuing these leads.' The trial is set for later his month.
Santa finished reading the main blurb and put down the paper, then he reached for a box of cigars, and offered one to Hayward, who declined, then he pulled one out of the box and proceeded to light it, blowing a cloud of smoke to the ceiling. With a happy smile he leaned back in his chair and said, 'That's what I like to see, damn fine reporting, write a note, I'll make sure that guy who wrote the article gets a nice bottle of something, I'm a generous man, I don't like hurting people, see? But sometimes they just do stupid things, and if there's anything Ican't tolerate, it's stupid people, right?'
'Oh yes' said Hayward, 'The world would be a much better place to live in if people used their heads, a much better place.'
'Now,' said Santa, smiling kindly, 'Was there anything else you wanted to bring to my attention?'
'No, everything is running smoothly, we are on schedule with the toy production, and everything is in control with the workers, we have heard no murmers of dissent this year at all.'
'Good, well, with the money that we received from our prodigal parents, split it between yourselves and have a night on me, now off you go.'
Hayward smiled and gave a hasty bow, before retreating to the door, he then left the room and softly closed it, then someone behind him coughed, and he jumped and spun around, 'What are you trying to do? Give me a heart attack?', 'what do you want' he continued in a quieter voice. Jameson softly said, 'The others sent me to make sure everything went alright.'
'Yes, they did' Hayward said irratibly, 'Why shouldn't they?'
'Well, you know.'
'Know what? No, don't bother, come on, we've been given a bonus, a night on the town so to speak, lets go have a bit of fun.'
